Chowna Mein highlights benefits of Dibang power initiative.

Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein recently visited the site of the 2880-MW Dibang power project, located near Dambuk in the Lower Dibang Valley district, to take stock of its progress.

During his visit, he emphasised that this ambitious project will significantly enhance the state’s energy infrastructure and provide a strong impetus to its economic growth.

The Dibang power project, one of the largest of its kind, is a testament to the power of persistence and collaborative effort, according to Mein.

The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted the substantial progress that has been made under the leadership of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, who has worked tirelessly to revive stalled projects by handing them over to Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) for better execution.

Mein expressed his confidence that the successful completion of the Dibang project will serve as a major milestone in harnessing the vast hydropower potential that Arunachal Pradesh holds.

This project is not just about meeting the state’s energy needs. According to Mein, it will have far-reaching benefits across multiple sectors.

He noted that the initiative is expected to act as a catalyst for economic development, driving growth in tourism, enhancing connectivity, and creating numerous opportunities for the local communities, particularly the youth.

These contributions are expected to be key to the success of the project and its positive impact on the region.

The project also promises to bring significant improvements to the state’s infrastructure. As part of the development plan, the construction of a boating route from the dam site to Anini, the headquarters of Dibang Valley district, has been proposed.

This will make it easier to access remote areas and improve connectivity. Additionally, a bypass road connecting Roing, Pasighat, and Gerukamukh in Assam will be constructed, aimed at facilitating the movement of heavy vehicles carrying construction materials to the project site.

Mein also took the opportunity to inaugurate a newly constructed police station building at Dambuk, marking another milestone in the region’s development.

Furthermore, he laid the foundation stone for the ‘Conservation of Bongal Yapgo War Memorial Heritage’ project. This historic site, built in the 19th century by the Adi (Padams), commemorates the 1894 Anglo-Abor War, where Adi warriors courageously fought against British colonial forces.

The conservation of this war memorial is another important step in preserving the cultural heritage of the region.
