Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, extended his heartfelt appreciation to Ratan Tata, Emeritus Chairman of Tata Sons, and Chairman N Chandrasekaran, for their pivotal role in establishing the upcoming Rs 27,000-crore Tata semiconductor facility in the state.
Sarma's visit to Mumbai to personally convey his gratitude to the Tata leadership spotlights the significance of Tata's transformative investment in Assam.
During the meeting, Sarma emphasised that the semiconductor facility, whose foundation stone was recently laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will not only position Assam on the global semiconductor map but also herald a new era of economic prosperity for eastern India.
The collaboration between the Assam government and the Tata Group holds the promise of making Assam a major player in sophisticated semiconductor manufacturing, elevating its stature internationally.
In response, Ratan Tata lauded the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Sarma and expressed confidence in the state's potential to emerge as a hub for advanced semiconductor technology.
The Assam CM highlighted the transformative impact of such investments, not only in economic terms but also in enhancing critical sectors like cancer care through advanced treatments.
Furthermore, Sarma highlighted the collaborative efforts between the Assam government and Tata Group to establish a skill development Centre within the premises of the semiconductor facility in Jagiroad.
This Centre aims to empower the youth of the North East by offering specialised courses in Artificial Intelligence, semiconductors, and electronics, thereby equipping them with the necessary skills to secure employment opportunities in the semiconductor unit.
Already, 1,500 youths from Assam, particularly women, are undergoing training at Tata facilities in Bangalore, laying the foundation for their future leadership roles once the semiconductor facility becomes operational in 2025.
This strategic initiative highlights the commitment of both the Assam government and Tata Group to foster inclusive growth and empower the youth of the region
