The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has suspended the membership of Al Falah University, Faridabad, Haryana, citing that the institution “does not appear to be in good standing.” In an official letter, the AIU instructed the university to immediately remove its logo and refrain from using the AIU name in any form.
“It is intimated that, as per the by-laws of the Association of Indian Universities, all universities shall be treated as members as long as they remain in good standing. Al-Falah University, Faridabad, Haryana, does not appear to be in good standing. Accordingly, its membership stands suspended with immediate effect,” the statement read.
The suspension follows the investigation into the November 10 Red Fort car blast in Delhi, in which 13 people were killed. Officials have linked suspects in the terror probe to the university. Dr Umar Nabi, allegedly driving the i20 involved in the explosion, was employed as an assistant professor at Al Falah. Three other doctors connected to the institution have also been detained.
Meanwhile, the central government has ordered a forensic audit of the university’s records. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) and other financial investigative agencies have been directed to examine the institution’s money trail, according to sources. The directive was issued after a high-level meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, reviewing the progress of the ongoing investigation.
Al Falah University, a private institute that also houses a hospital on its campus in Dhauj, Faridabad, is now under intense scrutiny amid the widening probe.
