Aban Ahmed, the youngest son of slain gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed, was killed in a road accident in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi on Thursday while travelling to meet his elder brother Ali Ahmed, who is lodged in the district jail, police said.

According to police, Aban was travelling from Prayagraj to Jhansi with four others when their vehicle crashed into a highway divider. The impact was severe, leaving the front portion of the vehicle badly mangled.

Aban and another occupant died on the spot, while the three remaining passengers sustained serious injuries and were admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident, with preliminary reports pointing to overspeeding.

Officials said the group was on its way to meet Ali Ahmed, who has been lodged in Jhansi district jail since being shifted from Naini Central Jail in October 2025.

Ali surrendered to police in an extortion case and is also an accused in the February 2023 murder of Umesh Pal, the key witness in the 2005 killing of BSP MLA Raju Pal. Investigators have alleged that the conspiracy to kill Umesh Pal was orchestrated from inside prison.

Following the killing of Atiq Ahmed, Ali is believed by investigators to have assumed control of the family's criminal network, known as IS-227.

Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed, both accused in numerous criminal cases, including the Umesh Pal murder case, were shot dead on April 15, 2023, by three assailants posing as journalists while they were being escorted by police to a medical facility in Prayagraj. The killings, captured live on television, drew nationwide attention.

Police said further details regarding Thursday's accident would be known after completion of the investigation.
