Water Minister Atishi Urges Delhi Chief Secy To Act Fast.

Delhi Water Minister Atishi has taken decisive action to address the growing problem of sewer overflow in various parts of the city. On Saturday, she directed Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to ensure that this critical issue is resolved swiftly and effectively.

The minister’s directive comes after a flood of complaints from residents across multiple areas of Delhi, who are struggling with the severe inconvenience caused by overflowing sewers.

In her letter to the Chief Secretary, Atishi emphasised the urgency of the situation, pointing out that the issue is widespread, with neighbourhoods like Patparganj Village, Shashi Garden, Kichripur, Subhash Park, Raj Nagar Part 2, Satya Niketan, RK Puram, and several others among the most severely affected.

The minister expressed deep concern over the potential health hazards posed by the situation, particularly the contamination of drinking water, which she warned could lead to a serious public health crisis if not addressed immediately.

Atishi did not hold back in her criticism of the lack of coordination among various government departments, which she believes is exacerbating the problem.

She pointed out that instead of working together to resolve the issue, the Urban Development Department, Delhi Jal Board, and the Finance Department have been engaged in a blame game, leaving the residents of Delhi to bear the brunt of the administrative inefficiency.

The Water Minister has called on the Chief Secretary to take a leadership role in resolving the internal conflicts between these departments. She reminded him of his responsibility as the head of the bureaucracy to ensure that the people of Delhi do not suffer due to the laxity of government officials.

Atishi’s intervention highlights the gravity of the sewer overflow issue, which has been causing significant distress to residents. The minister’s focus is now on ensuring that the Chief Secretary and the relevant departments take swift action to alleviate the situation and prevent it from escalating into a full-blown health crisis.
