Teachers' Transfer Policy of Delhi Govt, Review Promised by Delhi LG Saxena.

After Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena directed a temporary halt on the transfer of 5,000 teachers, Delhi Education Minister Atishi expressed strong opposition to any attempts to disrupt Delhi's education system. Her comments followed Saxena's decision to pause the transfer orders as an interim measure.

Atishi criticised the transfers, which took place overnight on July 2, alleging they were orchestrated by the BJP through the Lieutenant Governor. She emphasised that these teachers played a crucial role in transforming Delhi's government schools over the past decade alongside Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

According to Atishi, the dedication of these teachers has elevated the city's public schools to a standard surpassing private institutions. Atishi welcomed Saxena's decision to halt the transfers, stating that her party will continue to defend the rights of teachers and ensure the quality of education for Delhi's children.

She reaffirmed the commitment of Kejriwal's government to protecting the interests of the schools and opposing any future attempts to undermine Delhi's educational progress.

Ajay Veer Yadav, General Secretary of the Government Schools Teachers Association of India, met with LG Saxena regarding the transfer orders. Following the meeting, Yadav reported that Saxena assured the formation of a committee to review the transfer policy, providing significant relief to the teachers.

Raj Niwas Delhi, managed by the Delhi LG Secretariat, announced on its official X handle that Saxena had received numerous representations from various government school teachers' associations and had met with their delegation. The post highlighted Saxena's ongoing efforts to improve service conditions for government employees to enhance their performance.

Saxena advised the Chief Secretary and the Directorate of Education to take a sympathetic, holistic, and fair view of the recent transfer orders. He suggested that the orders be kept in abeyance for the time being.

Previously, on July 4, Atishi wrote to Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, directing the immediate withdrawal of the transfer orders issued on July 2. She also called for a halt to any further compulsory transfers of teachers who had completed ten years at a particular school.

According to Atishi, Clause 16 of the transfer circular mandated that teachers who had served more than ten years in the same school apply for transfers. Failure to comply would result in their reassignment to other schools by the Directorate of Education (DoE). This clause led to nearly 5,000 teachers being transferred, despite their significant contributions to the city's education system.

Atishi also demanded disciplinary proceedings against officers who defied her directive issued on July 1, 2024, regarding the compulsory transfers. She called for a vigilance inquiry into any corruption or malpractice related to the teachers' transfer process.
