Delhi Minister Atishi has taken a strong stance against the Information and Publicity Department over a contentious advertisement issue. On Thursday, Atishi issued Show Cause Notices to the Director and Secretary of the department after a dispute arose regarding an Independence Day advertisement.
The advertisement, published on August 15, featured a half-page space without the photograph of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, contrary to the prior approvals and directions.
Atishi's notice highlights that despite receiving explicit instructions and approval for a full-page advertisement with the Chief Minister's photo, the department released a smaller ad without his image.
This, according to Atishi, constitutes a serious breach of protocol and an act of gross insubordination. The notice underlines that the advertisements and media plans were not authorised by the minister-in-charge, thereby rendering the entire process invalid.
The Show Cause Notices demand explanations from the officials as to why the cost of the unauthorised advertisement should not be deducted from their salaries. The officials have been given three days to respond to the notice.
This action follows Atishi's earlier correspondence with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw regarding severe water logging issues under the Zakhira underpass in Delhi.
In her letter, Atishi raised concerns about the waterlogging caused by inadequate drainage from railway areas, highlighting the need for improved infrastructure to prevent such problems.
Atishi’s move reflects a broader concern for accountability and adherence to procedures within the Delhi government. The situation underscores ongoing tensions and the need for clear communication and adherence to official directives in government operations.
