Train Accident Averted After Tampered Tracks Found in Surat, Gujarat.

An attempted train mishap was averted in Surat when miscreants tampered with railway tracks near Kim Railway Station. Fishplates and keys were removed from a section of the track, raising alarm for potential derailment.

Fortunately, the disruption was identified in time, preventing any damage or harm. According to Western Railway's Vadodara Division, the unidentified individuals responsible for this act removed the fishplates and keys from the UP line track, leaving them on the same section of the railway. However, swift action ensured that services were restored without significant delay.

This incident occurred in the midst of Gujarat's ongoing infrastructure developments, including the high-profile Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project. The bullet train project is a key symbol of India's efforts to modernise its railways and integrate advanced technology into the country’s transport systems.

Pramod Sharma, the Director of the project, highlighted how this initiative is part of the broader 'Make in India' drive. He expressed optimism about the bullet train technology that has arrived in India and the progress being made on the project.

The foundation work for eight stations along the bullet train route in Gujarat was completed recently, marking an important milestone. The project continues to move forward, focusing on incorporating local resources and talent under the 'Make in India' initiative.

Sharma also emphasised the importance of keeping the public informed about the advancements in the project, stressing the value of transparency and positive engagement with the media. He noted that through these efforts, the project receives encouragement and support from various stakeholders, contributing to its success.

The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), which is responsible for overseeing the bullet train project, has also been actively working on noise mitigation measures along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor.

The installation of noise barriers is currently underway. These barriers are essential to manage the sound generated by the high-speed train and the surrounding infrastructure.

Each noise barrier, standing at two metres in height from the rail level and one metre wide, is designed to minimise the aerodynamic sound produced by the train's operation.

The barriers weigh approximately 830 to 840 kilograms each and play a crucial role in ensuring that the noise generated, particularly by the train’s wheels on the tracks, is effectively distributed and reduced. This move is seen as a step towards making the bullet train experience more comfortable for passengers and nearby communities.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project represents a major leap forward for India’s transport sector. As the first of its kind in the country, the project has garnered attention both domestically and internationally.

It is viewed as a key component of India’s larger vision for economic growth and modernization. By connecting major cities with cutting-edge technology, the bullet train is expected to enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and boost the economy.

Despite challenges and delays, the project has made significant progress, with various construction works nearing completion. The foundation work for several stations in Gujarat is one such example, signalling that the project is on track to meet its deadlines.

This progress is particularly noteworthy given the complexity and scale of the undertaking. Engineers and workers are working tirelessly to ensure that the infrastructure is built to the highest standards, while also incorporating locally sourced materials and labour as part of the 'Make in India' initiative.
