Ayodhya's annual Ramlila has shattered global viewership records, attracting over 62 crore spectators across more than 50 countries, organisers said on Saturday. The festival, staged in the city of Lord Shriram, has grown from a regional religious performance into a global cultural phenomenon.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has overseen the expansion of the event, combining traditional storytelling with modern technology. This year, more than 250 artists from Delhi and Mumbai participated, with 3-D technology and elaborate stage design enhancing the spectacle.
According to a press release from the Ramlila Samiti, “This year, the Ramlila was broadcast online in more than 50 countries and watched by a total of over 62 crore Ram devotees.”
Over ₹10 crore was spent on live telecasting to reach devotees via Tata Play, Shemaroo Me, VI App, Airtel, YouTube, Facebook, and other digital platforms. More than eight crore viewers tuned in through the Shemaroo Bhakti YouTube channel alone.
Digital viewership has surged year-on-year: Google data shows 16 crore in 2020, 20 crore in 2021, 25 crore in 2022, 40 crore in 2023, 41 crore in 2024, and 62 crore in 2025. Organisers attribute this success to the seamless integration of traditional performances with global digital access.

This year’s edition featured a star-studded cast. Actress Bhagyashree portrayed Mother Sita, Vindu Dara Singh played Hanuman, Shahbaz Khan was Ravana, and Anil Dhawan enacted Vibhishan. Comedian Sunil Pal charmed audiences as Naradamuni, while Manoj Tiwari, Ravi Kishan, Rakesh Bedi, Raza Murad, Ashrani, Avtar Gill, Ritu Shivpuri, Sheeba, and Arun Bakshi brought their characters to life. Miss Universe 2024 and 2025 also performed special acts during the event.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi traditionally sends his blessings in a letter to the Ayodhya Ki Ramlila Samiti, a gesture that organisers say enhances the sanctity and significance of the festival.
The Ramlila continues to serve as a cultural bridge, showcasing India’s rich heritage to the world while blending devotion, art, and technology to create a uniquely modern spectacle.
