Veteran social activist Anna Hazare has expressed his dismay over the appearance of banners in Pune which urged him to "wake up" and lead the protest against alleged "vote theft."

Hazare spoke to reporters. He said he had already done what he could. It is now time for the youth to continue his work. The banners were put up in the Pashan area of the city. They were sponsored by local activist Sameer Uttarkar.

The banners read, "Anna, at least wake up now. Even Kumbhakarna woke up from deep slumber for Ravana and Lanka, so why don't you do the same for the country?" They also urged him to return to Delhi's Jantar Mantar. They said the nation was eager to see his "magic" again. The banners urged him to lead an agitation against alleged electoral malpractices.

Hazare responded to the display. "I introduced 10 laws," he said. "If people expect me to keep doing everything while they remain asleep, that expectation is wrong." He believes the youth should carry forward his work. Hazare reminded the youth that holding the national flag on Independence Day is not enough. "As citizens, don't we have duties? Nothing will be achieved merely by pointing fingers," he said.

The veteran activist expressed regret that "even after so many years of struggle, society has not woken up". He urged youngsters to embrace Gandhian ideals and fight social and economic issues.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has made his own allegations. He has claimed irregularities in electoral rolls. He has also raised questions about bogus voting and electronic voting machines. He has attacked both the Election Commission and the Bharatiya Janata Party government.
