Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday urged newly elected and recently inducted BJP Rajya Sabha members to exercise caution on social media, uphold parliamentary dignity and remain connected with the people during an interaction over breakfast at his official residence in New Delhi.
Around 37 Rajya Sabha MPs attended the meeting, including several leaders who recently joined the BJP from parties such as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Trinamool Congress (TMC). According to sources, the interaction was informal and interactive, with the Prime Minister sharing his experiences in public life and responding to questions from the lawmakers.
PM Modi advised the MPs not to get confined to the political circles of Delhi and instead stay connected with people at the grassroots. He cautioned them against getting caught in the “web of Delhi” and urged them to look beyond the capital’s political ecosystem.
According to sources, the Prime Minister also advised the MPs to be careful about their personal associations and conduct in public life. He urged them to use official letterheads only for genuine public welfare work and to maintain the highest standards of integrity and discipline.
Emphasising responsible communication, PM Modi asked the MPs to be particularly careful while using social media platforms and appearing on television debates. He stressed that public representatives should avoid making inappropriate or offensive remarks and should always maintain dignity.
“No one should say anything trashy on TV. Maintain full dignity at all times,” he was quoted as saying. At the same time, the Prime Minister encouraged the MPs to actively engage with people through platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and X. He urged them to connect with young people, spread awareness about the Centre’s welfare schemes and promote sports and fitness among the youth.
Highlighting the importance of parliamentary conduct, PM Modi advised the MPs not to allow heated debates inside Parliament to affect their personal behaviour outside the House. He said members should calmly present the party’s views without anger or unnecessary confrontation.
He also encouraged the lawmakers to interact with MPs across party lines and understand their colleagues better, describing Parliament as a place for learning and constructive dialogue. Sharing his personal approach to work and time management, PM Modi said he focuses entirely on the present moment. “I live in the present. Stay in the present and work for a better future for the country,” he told the MPs.
The Prime Minister also underlined the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. According to sources, he said that despite sleeping for only around three-and-a-half hours, he practises yoga every day, which helps him remain energetic and productive. He encouraged all MPs to adopt healthy habits and make yoga a part of their daily routine.

Several MPs described the interaction as insightful and motivating. Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal said the Prime Minister advised him to connect with the youth by listening carefully, understanding their concerns and speaking to them politely.
MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney said PM Modi described Parliament as a place of continuous learning and encouraged members to spend time in the Parliament Library to improve their understanding of national issues. He also urged MPs to actively implement sports-related initiatives in their constituencies.
BJP MP Rahul Sinha said the Prime Minister patiently listened to every member and offered valuable guidance on public life and parliamentary responsibilities. Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev said PM Modi referred to Parliament as a “university” where leaders from across the country learn from one another and emphasised the need to always behave with dignity.
The interaction concluded with the Prime Minister encouraging the MPs to uphold democratic values, remain accessible to the people and discharge their parliamentary responsibilities with dedication and humility.
