Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Saturday contributed Rs 2.70 lakh, equal to his one-month salary, to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

Choudhary handed over the cheque to his Secretary, Lokesh Kumar Singh, at ‘Sankalp’ in Lok Sevak Awas.

 

Appealing to residents and financially capable members of society, the Chief Minister urged them to donate generously to the relief fund. He said greater contributions would help extend maximum assistance to people affected by disasters.

Choudhary described the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund as an important support mechanism for people in distress. He added that wider public participation could strengthen relief and assistance operations.

 

Bharatiya Janata Party National President Nitin Nabin had on Friday voiced concern over the severe flood situation in Bihar and highlighted the measures taken by the state government, support from the Centre and his own contribution to the relief effort.

 

Nabin said affected families were being supported through financial assistance, relief camps and crop-loss assessments. He added that the government was standing with the people and continuously monitoring the situation to ensure that relief and other necessary aid reached them without delay.

He contributed Rs 6,35,000—equivalent to his three months’ salary as a Rajya Sabha MP—to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Nabin also said the state government had already provided more than Rs 550 crore to flood-affected families at the rate of Rs 7,000 per family.

Relief camps, community kitchens, medical services and arrangements for livestock fodder have been put in place in the affected areas. NDRF and SDRF teams have been deployed for rescue operations, while authorities are assessing crop damage and working on assistance for farmers.

Nabin further said Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had visited flood-hit areas, met affected people and reviewed the ongoing relief and rescue work. He assured flood-affected families in Bihar of his continued support.

 

The Disaster Management Department said floods have affected 49.67 lakh people across 15 districts of Bihar.

The affected districts are Patna, Bhojpur, Saran, Vaishali, Bhagalpur, Begusarai, Buxar, Samastipur, Munger, Katihar, Lakhisarai, Khagaria, Purnea, Madhepura and Araria.
