The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday announced its new team of national office-bearers, nearly seven months after Nitin Nabin was appointed as the party's national president.

The reshuffle includes several prominent names, with former Union minister Smriti Irani and former BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav returning to key organisational roles. Former Tripura chief minister Biplab Deb has been appointed national general secretary, while Union minister Piyush Goyal has been named treasurer. Anil Baluni has been retained as the party's media in-charge.

The new team includes eight national general secretaries, with Vinod Tawde and Sunil Bansal being the only two retained from the previous team. The new general secretaries include former Basti MP Harish Dwivedi, former Rajasthan BJP president Satish Poonia, Gajendra Patel of Madhya Pradesh and Sanjay Bhatia.

Smriti Irani is the only woman among the eight general secretaries. The broader team includes 12 women and reflects the BJP's emphasis on caste and regional representation.

The party has also appointed 16 national secretaries, including three-term Bulandshahr MP Bhola Singh and Rajya Sabha MP Kavita Patidar, who belongs to the OBC community.

Several senior leaders have been dropped from the new organisational team. Arun Singh, who had served as a national general secretary since 2015, and Rajya Sabha MP Radha Mohan Das Agrawal are among those who have not found a place in the new line-up.

Dushyant Gautam, a prominent Dalit leader who had served as a national general secretary since 2020 and was Uttarakhand in-charge, has also been dropped.

Tarun Chugh, who was recently elected to the Rajya Sabha, has been given charge of the BJP's organisational affairs in poll-bound Punjab.

The retention of Tawde and Bansal is being seen in the context of the upcoming assembly elections. Both leaders have played important roles as election in-charges in several states. Bansal was involved in the party's West Bengal election campaign, while Tawde handled Kerala and Bihar-related organisational responsibilities.

Former Rajasthan BJP president Vasundhara Raje is also among the prominent names in the reshuffle, according to the party's new organisational line-up.

Nabin, a five-term legislator from Bihar and now a Rajya Sabha member, was appointed BJP president on January 20. At 46, his elevation marked a generational shift in the party and made him its youngest national president.

The new appointments are expected to shape the BJP's organisational strategy ahead of several crucial state elections, including the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls early next year.
