Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of ‘sheltering goons who torture women’, and said the BJP fielding candidates such as Sandeshkhali’s Rekha Patra and the mother of the R G Kar victim reflects its commitment to women’s safety.
Addressing a rally at Thakurnagar in Bongaon, North 24 Parganas, PM Modi also said refugees who came to India due to religious persecution in neighbouring countries would be granted citizenship through procedures under the Citizenship Amendment Act.
Referring to the high turnout of over 93 per cent in the first phase of polling, he said the ‘TMC’s arrogance has been shattered’ and claimed the second phase would further strengthen BJP’s prospects in the state. Drawing on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s famous slogan, he urged voters to support the BJP, saying it would bring “freedom from TMC’s ‘maha jungleraj’.”

“The TMC’s ‘nirmam sarkar’ (cruel government) stands with those who harass women in the state. The time has come to say enough is enough,” PM Modi said.
He also warned alleged infiltrators to leave the country before April 29, the date of the final phase of polling, adding that they would otherwise be “removed after May 4 when results are declared.”
