Core Group Meeting at Nadda’s Discusses J&K Election Strategy.

As Jammu and Kashmir prepares for its assembly elections next month, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is intensifying its election preparations. The core group meeting for the J&K assembly elections is currently being held at BJP National President JP Nadda’s residence in Delhi.

This crucial meeting is chaired by JP Nadda and includes key figures such as Union Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister and Election In-Charge G Kishan Reddy, and senior party leaders like Ram Madhav.

Also present are National General Secretary and BJP J&K In-Charge Tarun Chugh, Co-In-Charge Ashish Sood, MP Jammu Jugal Kishor, State General Secretary (Organization) Ashok Kaul, State President Ravinder Raina, and Union Minister and MP from Jammu Jitender Singh.

The meeting’s primary focus is on discussing potential candidates for the 90 assembly seats in J&K. State sources indicate that discussions will revolve around selecting and shortlisting candidates, which will be further refined during the Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting scheduled for August 25.

A senior leader emphasised the significance of the Jammu region in this election, noting that the number of assembly seats in Jammu has increased to 43 following recent delimitation. The BJP is placing substantial emphasis on this region, expecting strong results from Jammu.

Ram Madhav, appointed as the BJP’s Election In-Charge for the upcoming polls, is expected to play a pivotal role. Madhav was instrumental in the BJP-PDP alliance formation in 2014 and his experience is seen as crucial for the party’s strategy.

The assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are slated to be conducted in three phases: September 18, September 25, and October 1. The results will be announced on October 4.

The Election Commission has already issued notifications for the first phase, covering 24 assembly seats. This will be the first assembly election in the region since the abrogation of Article 370.
