The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday launched a coordinated nationwide offensive against the Trinamool Congress, holding press conferences across 10 states to protest alleged violence, intimidation of poll officials and disruption of electoral processes in West Bengal.

The BJP alleged that a Booth Level Officer (BLO), Ashok Das, was driven to suicide due to sustained pressure and threats from local TMC leaders during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Addressing the media in Delhi, BJP MP and national spokesperson Sambit Patra accused the Mamata Banerjee government of creating a climate of fear to protect illegal immigrants.

“Ashok Das was honestly discharging his duties, but he committed suicide due to constant threats from TMC workers,” Patra alleged, describing the incident as a “political murder”. He claimed poll officials in the state were being intimidated to prevent the removal of illegal infiltrators from voter lists.

Patra further accused the TMC of shielding Rohingya and Bangladeshi migrants, alleging that violence was being used to derail the SIR exercise. He cited an attack on the Block Development Officer’s office in Farakka, Murshidabad, claiming it occurred in the presence of TMC MLA Manirul Islam.

The BJP leader alleged that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had turned “Sonar Bangla” into “Bhay Bangla”, accusing the state government of encouraging lawlessness ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.

As part of the nationwide outreach, BJP leaders also criticised the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab over a police raid at the Punjab Kesri newspaper group’s office. BJP leader R P Singh alleged the action amounted to an attack on press freedom and misuse of state machinery.

The party additionally targeted the Congress over controversial remarks made by Madhya Pradesh MLA Phool Singh Baraiya, who allegedly linked rape to religious scriptures. The BJP demanded accountability and disciplinary action against the legislator.

Press conferences were held in states including Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat, focusing on alleged misuse of power, attacks on democratic institutions and failure to maintain law and order.

The BJP said it would continue to raise these issues nationally and demanded justice for the deceased BLO, warning that democratic processes in West Bengal were under serious threat.
