BJP leaders and Union ministers have expressed their condolences following the death of CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury. The veteran politician, known for his extensive career in public life, passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi after a prolonged illness. He was 72.
Senior BJP leader and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described Yechury as a distinguished parliamentarian, recognised for his knowledge and eloquence. In a tribute posted on X, Singh said, "Pained by the passing away of CPI(M) general secretary and former Rajya Sabha MP Sitaram Yechury. He distinguished himself in public life with his depth of knowledge and articulate nature."
Singh, who considered Yechury a personal friend, recalled their interactions with fondness and extended his condolences to Yechury’s family and supporters, concluding with a respectful "Om Shanti."
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also paid tribute, acknowledging Yechury’s significant contributions to public life. Gadkari wrote on X, "Deeply saddened by the passing of Sitaram Yechury ji. His contributions to public life will always be remembered. Heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time. Om Shanti."
Piyush Goyal, another Union Minister, remembered Yechury for his dedication to the country. Goyal noted, "The demise of Sitaram Yechury is extremely saddening. He was a calm person and gave his entire life for the country. Despite our ideological differences, we remained friends. I have learnt a lot from him, and he will always be alive in our hearts. I pray for strength for his family."
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, extending his deepest condolences, reflected on his long-term working relationship with Yechury.
Rijiju stated, "I am deeply saddened by the tragic demise of veteran CPM leader Sitaram Yechury ji. We had many years of working relations in the Parliament."
