The BJP reshuffled its state leadership in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Tripura as the party under Nitin Nabin pushes organisational changes ahead of key political battles.
The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday announced new presidents for its units in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Tripura as part of a wider organisational reshuffle under party chief Nitin Nabin.
Union Minister of State and East Delhi MP Harsh Malhotra was appointed president of the BJP’s Delhi unit, while former Congress leader Kewal Singh Dhillon was named chief of the party’s Punjab unit.
In Haryana, BJP leader Archana Gupta was given charge of the state organisation, while MLA Abhishek Debroy was appointed president of the party’s Tripura unit.
The appointments were announced through an organisational notification issued by BJP national general secretary and headquarters in-charge Arun Singh.
The reshuffle comes amid the BJP’s efforts to inject new leadership and strengthen its organisational structure across several states ahead of upcoming political and electoral activity.
In Tripura, Debroy’s appointment has triggered political discussion within party circles as veteran leader Rajib Bhattacharjee was replaced despite being regarded as one of the BJP’s senior organisational faces in the state. The move gained further attention after Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha met BJP national president Nitin Nabin in Delhi a day before the announcement, fuelling speculation over the leadership change.
Debroy represents the Matabari constituency in the Tripura Assembly and was elected in the 2023 Assembly polls on a BJP ticket.
In Punjab, Dhillon’s elevation marks another prominent induction from the Congress into the BJP leadership structure. A loyalist of former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, Dhillon served as MLA from Barnala between 2012 and 2017 before joining the BJP in 2022.
Malhotra, a prominent BJP face in Delhi, currently serves as Union Minister of State for Corporate Affairs and Road Transport and Highways.
Reacting to her appointment, Archana Gupta thanked the party leadership and said she would discharge her responsibilities with “complete integrity, dedication and a spirit of service”.
