Union Minister George Kurian Eyes Rajya Sabha From Madhya Pradesh.

Union Minister George Kurian recently filed his nomination to represent the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Madhya Pradesh in the upcoming Rajya Sabha election. Kurian submitted his papers at the state Legislative Assembly in Bhopal on Wednesday, with the event attended by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Madhya Pradesh BJP chief VD Sharma.

Expressing his gratitude, Kurian thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central BJP leadership, Chief Minister Yadav, and VD Sharma for their support and nomination. He assured that he would fulfil his responsibilities and work for the people of Madhya Pradesh.

Chief Minister Yadav echoed these sentiments, highlighting the significance of Kurian’s nomination. Yadav described Kurian as a popular leader from Kerala and expressed his appreciation for the party’s decision, anticipating a successful election.

Kurian's nomination is notable as it will potentially increase the number of Union Ministers from Madhya Pradesh to seven if he is elected.

This addition is seen as a significant boost for the state, as it would enhance its representation in the Modi 3.0 cabinet. Currently, the state is already represented by six Union Ministers, including Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Virendra Kumar, Durgadas Uikey, Savitri Thakur, and L Murugan.

The Rajya Sabha seat Kurian is contesting became available after Jyotiraditya Scindia moved to the Lok Sabha from the Guna constituency in the 2024 general elections. The election process for this seat will involve polling on September 3, with votes counted on the same day.
