The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to accelerate its search for a new national president following the conclusion of the ongoing Parliament session on April 4, with the announcement likely by the third week of April, sources have indicated.
According to sources, the party's organisational elections have been completed in 13 states, with state presidents already appointed.
The process of finalising state presidents for the remaining 19 states, including key regions such as Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal, is anticipated to be concluded within the next week.
Once these appointments are made, the party will move forward with selecting its new national president.
The BJP’s constitution mandates that organisational elections must be completed in at least half of its state units before initiating the selection process for the national president.
The new appointee will succeed Jagat Prakash Nadda, who has held the position since 2019.
While the tenure of a BJP national president is typically three years, Nadda has received multiple extensions, with the latest aimed at ensuring stability in the party’s preparations for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The impending announcement is expected to set the course for the party’s organisational leadership in the lead-up to crucial state elections and the next general elections.
The selection process is likely to be closely watched, with key leaders playing a decisive role in determining the party’s future course.
