The Congress on Monday accused the BJP of fabricating a "completely fake" controversy to ensure the adjournment of Parliament, thereby avoiding discussion on the alleged misconduct of Delhi High Court Justice Yashwant Varma.
BJP members in the Lok Sabha have been vocal on the matter of reservations for Muslims in government contracts in Karnataka, alleging that Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar had suggested amending the Constitution to facilitate a four per cent reservation for the community.
However, Shivakumar has refuted the claims, asserting that he never proposed amending the Constitution to introduce religion-based reservations.
Rajya Sabha proceedings were disrupted and adjourned on Monday morning as treasury and opposition benches clashed over the contentious issue of reservations in Karnataka’s public contracts.
Congress general secretary in charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh, remarked, "Today the BJP came up with a completely fake issue to get Parliament adjourned so that the very serious issue of Justice Yashwant Varma's conduct does not get discussed."

Priyanka Gandhi, speaking to reporters in the Parliament complex after the Lok Sabha was adjourned for the second time, criticised the ruling party's tactics. "They seem to have made up their mind that they don't want the House to function. It’s been many days now, they find some excuse or the other to (create ruckus)," she said.
In an extraordinary development, the Supreme Court on Saturday night made public an in-house inquiry report, complete with photos and videos, concerning the purported discovery of a substantial amount of cash at Justice Varma’s residence.
Following the recommendations of the 25-page report, Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna formed an in-house committee to investigate the matter.
He further directed Delhi High Court Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya to relieve Justice Varma of all judicial responsibilities.
