The Bharatiya Janata Party is set to stage nationwide demonstrations outside Congress offices on Wednesday, responding to the Opposition's high-profile protest near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. Party sources confirmed that the planned agitation serves as a direct response to what the ruling party termed "unruly behaviour" by Congress leadership.
Following the Opposition's sit-in outside the Prime Minister’s official residence, BJP President Nitin Nabin strongly criticised Rahul Gandhi, stating that his actions were entirely unbecoming of the Leader of the Opposition. Nabin remarked that Gandhi continues to treat a constitutional position with levity, warning that when opposition politics crosses the boundaries of propriety, it devolves into anarchy. Furthermore, he stated that the process of marching towards the Prime Minister’s residence showed that Congress leaders have begun positioning themselves as representatives of chaotic politics rather than constructive opposition.
On similar lines, the senior BJP leader Sambit Patra has criticised this protest stating that the dialogue in a democracy should follow certain laws and protocols. Though it is true that protests and dharnas form an important part of any democracy, it was not proper to use such places for this purpose. He said that putting the Prime Minister’s house and its surroundings at stake can create many security threats, especially when anti-social elements manage to join such gatherings.
It comes amidst the highly disruptive happenings in Parliament with regard to the NEET-UG question paper leak incident and the resulting police actions against student demonstrators. Despite the Opposition's call for an urgent discussion on the issue in Parliament, considering the Center accountable for the exam irregularities and the brutal police actions, high-ranking Congress leaders took their protest further by proceeding towards Lok Kalyan Marg.
