The Bharatiya Janata Party is set to table the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report in the Delhi Assembly on 25 February during a three-day session, marking its first major move since returning to power in the capital after nearly three decades.
However, former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has accused the BJP of misleading the public by suggesting that the report is being presented at its initiative.
Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Atishi claimed she had already submitted the CAG reports to the Delhi Assembly Speaker before the elections in a sealed envelope.
She asserted that the reports were always intended to be presented in the House during the first session after the polls.
“The BJP is spreading the misconception that they have taken the decision to present the report. This is completely false. We firmly believe that whatever is in the CAG report should be presented before the people of Delhi,” she said.
Atishi, who was recently appointed Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly, was elevated to the role after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) senior leader Gopal Rai announced the party’s decision.
The BJP, which ended AAP’s reign in Delhi after 27 years, has placed the CAG report at the top of its agenda. BJP leader Vijender Gupta confirmed that presenting the report was a priority decision made during the cabinet meeting on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Delhi minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa alleged that the CAG report highlights irregularities in the supply of liquor in the capital. He accused AAP of deliberately withholding the report for the past three years to conceal corruption.
“The party that claims to be honest is actually the most corrupt,” Sirsa said. “They did not want to bring the CAG report before the public. This is a performance-based report, and it clearly points to irregularities in liquor supply. On one hand, they claimed to focus on education and health, but on the other, they were working on alcohol. There is a liquor scam, and now the truth will come out.”
