The Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) has declared its intention to organise a tractor march at all district headquarters in Uttar Pradesh on February 21.
Farmers plan to position their tractors along the highways leading to Delhi on February 26 and 27, demonstrating solidarity with protesting farmers and their key demands, including the minimum support price.
During a Mahapanchayat held at its headquarters in Sisauli, Muzaffarnagar, BKU leader Rakesh Tikait urged farmers to exhibit their full strength in the upcoming tractor march on February 21. He expressed support for the Punjab farmers embarking on the 'Delhi Chalo' march to advocate for farmers' rights.
Addressing a large gathering of farmers, Tikait vehemently criticised the ruling BJP government, characterising the situation as a battle to safeguard both 'nasal' (generation) and 'fasal' (crop).
Tikait urged farmers to participate actively in the tractor march on February 21 and then to park their tractors along highways from Haridwar to Delhi on February 26 and 27 without causing disruptions to traffic.
The farmer leader accused vested interests of conspiring to control the 'roti' (food) supply through the government, suggesting that they perceived it as a more lucrative business than other commodities. He emphasised the importance of this battle for the survival of farmers.
Tikait cautioned farmers about potential government attempts to divide their unity and advised them to be prepared to thwart any such efforts.
He disclosed that he had been approached individually but insisted that the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha should be contacted instead of dealing with an individual.
Encouraging the gathering to commit one year's earnings to the movement, Tikait emphasised the significance of the struggle for the survival of farmers.
