In a significant political development in Assam, senior Congress leader and spokesperson Bobbeeta Sharma on Tuesday stepped down from all her positions within the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), citing personal reasons.
In an official statement announcing her decision, Bobbeeta expressed gratitude to the leadership of both the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and the APCC for the opportunity to serve the people of Assam under the banner of the Indian National Congress—a party she described as being deeply tied to her upbringing.
“I have decided to resign from all my political posts in the APCC,” she said, adding, “I thank the leaders of both AICC and APCC for allowing me the opportunity to serve the people of Assam through the Indian National Congress.”
Extending her best wishes to the newly appointed APCC President Gaurav Gogoi and his team, Bobbeeta said, “I hope they will be able to steer the party towards a better future, cleansing it from within.”
She also highlighted her involvement in the Panchayat Elections Enquiry Committee and recalled submitting a detailed report to the AICC.
“We had submitted the report under the chairmanship of ex-MP and former APCC President Sri Paban Singh Ghatowar, with Sri R. P. Sharma, ex-MP, and myself as member-secretary. I hope our recommendations will be implemented in both letter and spirit for the party’s betterment,” she said.
Bobbeeta has been a prominent face of the Congress in Assam, having contested the 2016 Vidhan Sabha elections and the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from the Guwahati constituency.
Her resignation comes at a pivotal time as the Congress prepares for a leadership reset in the state, with an eye on revitalising its strategy ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
