Delhi Rouse Avenue Court to Begin Trial in Brij Bhushan Harassment Case.

The Rouse Avenue Court has set the stage for the trial of former MP and ex-WFI Chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, along with Vinod Tomar, in a significant sexual harassment case. This development follows the court's directive to begin proceedings and record statements from prosecution witnesses starting July 26.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Priyanka Rajpoot issued summons to the witnesses on Thursday, marking a pivotal step in the legal process.

Earlier, on May 21, the court officially framed charges against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and Vinod Tomar. They face accusations under sections 354 and 354A of the IPC, specifically concerning the alleged outraging of the modesty of women.

The court also decided to proceed with a charge under section 506 (part 1) against Brij Bhushan, while dismissing one allegation brought by a sixth wrestler.

The Delhi Police, in their chargesheet filed on June 15, 2023, detailed the allegations of sexual harassment, molestation, and stalking against both accused individuals.

The chargesheet, spanning 1599 pages and incorporating statements from 44 witnesses along with photographic evidence, forms a substantial basis for the trial.

The case originated from complaints lodged by women wrestlers, resulting in the registration of two FIRs on April 28. One FIR, filed under the POCSO Act, included subsequent actions leading to the cancellation of charges concerning a minor wrestler.

The second FIR, based on complaints from multiple wrestlers, led to charges being filed under sections 354, 354A, 354D, and other relevant provisions against Brij Bhushan Singh and Vinod Tomar.

This legal process underscores the judiciary's commitment to addressing serious allegations of misconduct, ensuring thorough investigation and due process.

The forthcoming trial will further illuminate the complexities of the case, striving to deliver justice and accountability in a matter that has drawn significant public attention and scrutiny.
