Chandigarh is preparing to host the third edition of the NMIMS Chandigarh Half Marathon, an event that blends fitness, community engagement, and social awareness.
Organised by the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) Chandigarh, the marathon is set to take place on Sunday, March 9, 2025. This year, the focus is on cancer awareness, early detection, and the resilience of individuals battling serious illnesses.
The official announcement was made at the Chandigarh Press Club, where the marathon jersey was also unveiled.
The event was attended by key officials from NMIMS Chandigarh, including Prof. (Dr.) Rashmi Khorana Nagpal, Campus Director (I/C) and Associate Dean of the School of Law; Dr. Jyotsna Singh, Associate Dean of Computer Engineering/STME; and Dr. Ankita Bhardwaj, Program Chairperson of the School of Commerce.
Dr. Ashish Gulia, Director of the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre, New Chandigarh, was also present, highlighting the event's focus on health awareness.
To strengthen its message, NMIMS Chandigarh has partnered with the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (Tata Memorial Centre) to spread awareness about cancer prevention.
The marathon is expected to see participation from nearly 1,000 individuals, including cancer survivors and those who have overcome major health challenges. Their involvement serves as a testament to resilience, determination, and the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
Prof. (Dr.) Rashmi Khorana Nagpal expressed her pride in making the half marathon an annual tradition. She emphasised that NMIMS is committed to holistic student development, incorporating sports and personality-building activities alongside academics.
She highlighted that the event is not just about running but also about fostering awareness and perseverance in the fight against diseases like cancer.
Dr. Ashish Gulia, in his address, stressed the importance of personal health and regular exercise. He pointed out that obesity is linked to multiple forms of cancer and urged individuals to take charge of their well-being.
He noted that no medical infrastructure, no matter how advanced, can replace the impact of a proactive approach to health. He also mentioned the collaboration with NMIMS to reach out to the communities of Chandigarh and Mohali to spread awareness about health management.
The event is being organised with meticulous planning, led by a core team of students from NMIMS Chandigarh. During the press conference, members of the Student Council shared details about the arrangements.
Hydration points will be set up at multiple locations along the route, and timing chip mats will be installed at the start and finish points.
To ensure the safety of participants, two ambulance vans, along with medical professionals, including nursing staff, physicians, and physiotherapists, will be stationed throughout the event.
The NMIMS Chandigarh Half Marathon has become an annual tradition, drawing runners for a meaningful cause. This year’s edition reaffirms the institution’s commitment to health awareness and resilience.
