The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved the disbursement of a Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) equivalent to 78 days’ wages for railway employees, totalling Rs. 1,865.68 crore. This bonus will benefit 10,91,146 non-gazetted railway staff across various roles, recognising their exemplary contributions to the Indian Railways’ operations.
The PLB is an annual initiative awarded ahead of the Durga Puja and Dussehra holidays to acknowledge the outstanding performance of railway employees. For the fiscal year 2024-25, eligible staff will receive an amount equivalent to 78 days’ wages, with a maximum payout of Rs 17,951 per employee.
This financial incentive covers a diverse group of railway workers, including Track Maintainers, Loco Pilots, Train Managers (Guards), Station Masters, Supervisors, Technicians, Technician Helpers, Pointsmen, Ministerial Staff, and other Group ‘C’ employees.
The approval of the PLB comes against the backdrop of Indian Railways’ remarkable achievements in 2024-25. During this period, the railways achieved a record cargo loading of 1,614.90 million tonnes and transported nearly 7.3 billion passengers, underscoring the efficiency and dedication of its workforce.
The PLB serves as a significant incentive to boost employee morale and encourage continued excellence in performance. By rewarding railway staff for their contributions, the initiative aims to further enhance the operational efficiency and service quality of Indian Railways, a critical backbone of India’s transportation infrastructure.
