The CBI has filed a 636-page chargesheet in the Twisha Sharma death case before the CBI Court in Bhopal, naming her husband Samarth Singh and mother-in-law Giribala Singh as accused under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Dowry Prohibition Act.

Twisha's cousin Ashish Sharma said the chargesheet establishes allegations of cruelty, while several details were yet to emerge as the documents were being examined.

He said the formal process of handing over the chargesheet and accompanying documents was still underway and that the family was reviewing the material.

“Cruelty is mentioned; the Dowry Prohibition Act is mentioned. So, on all these things, the CBI has presented certain things with facts, and on some things, the CBI is demanding further investigation,” Ashish said.

According to him, the CBI has examined around 150 witnesses during its investigation. He said some aspects had been established while other details were yet to be included or clarified in the documents available to the family.

Ashish also said the family had not yet received information about Twisha's second post-mortem examination. He said references to alleged tampering, influence or the second post-mortem were not visible in the preliminary summary documents being reviewed, though they could potentially be part of the detailed chargesheet.

He further said the CBI had approached the court seeking permission for a deeper investigation into certain aspects of the case.

Ashish alleged that phone-call records involving senior officials who were allegedly attempting to cover up aspects of the case were yet to be fully addressed. He said the issue was important and needed further investigation.

He also urged the judiciary to ensure that the accused were treated like any other citizen during the legal proceedings.

The CBI's chargesheet names Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh as accused under relevant provisions of the BNS and the Dowry Prohibition Act. Further details of the allegations and evidence are expected to emerge as the chargesheet and accompanying documents are examined by the court.
