In compliance with a fresh directive issued by the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday morning, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) successfully obtained custody of Shajahan Sheikh, the prime accused in the Sandeshkhali ED official attack case, from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
A team of CBI officials arrived at the CID headquarters, Bhawani Bhawan, before 4 PM to execute the court's order.
However, despite the court setting a deadline of 4.15 PM, the handover from the state agency occurred at approximately 6:48 PM.
Confirming the development, a CID official stated, "Shajahan Sheikh was handed over to the CBI."
This comes after the CBI's unsuccessful attempt on Tuesday to secure Sheikh's custody from the West Bengal CID, wherein they waited for over two hours without success.
During the previous attempt, the CID had cited the state government's move to challenge an order of the Calcutta High Court before the Supreme Court as the reason for withholding Sheikh's transfer to the central agency's custody.
