The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will issue revised physical marksheets for Class-12 students whose scores have changed following verification or re-evaluation, officials said on Monday. The updated documents will be made available through CBSE regional offices in due course.

Students will be required to surrender their earlier original marksheets before receiving the revised ones. However, the board clarified that digital marksheets available on DigiLocker will remain valid for all official purposes and can be used by candidates who require immediate access.

Revised marksheets to be issued via regional offices

CBSE officials said the distribution of updated marksheets will be handled by regional offices once the processing of individual re-evaluation cases is completed. The move follows the declaration of re-evaluation results for Class-12 students who had applied for verification or re-checking of their answer sheets.

The board on Sunday announced that results for more than 87 per cent of applicants had already been released in the first phase, while the remaining cases would be processed and declared in a phased manner.

CBSE had earlier enabled students to obtain scanned copies of their evaluated answer sheets between May 19 and May 25, followed by the application window for verification and re-evaluation from June 2 to June 7.

The board said all applications were processed through a “robust, transparent and carefully monitored system” to ensure fairness and accuracy in evaluation.

Gulf students’ evaluation policy placed before Supreme Court

In a separate development, the Centre informed the Supreme Court that CBSE has introduced a new policy for evaluating private students in Gulf countries whose examinations were disrupted due to the recent Iran-Israel conflict.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told a bench that a fresh all-India policy was notified on June 21 to address concerns of students whose Class-12 examinations were cancelled in seven Gulf countries.

Under the revised framework, students will be assessed using a formula combining 40 per cent of Class X marks and 60 per cent of their last-attempted Class XII performance for cancelled papers.

The policy applies particularly to private candidates, who do not have internal assessment records such as school-based evaluations, making the assessment process more complex than for regular students.

The matter was being heard in a petition filed by a private candidate from Saudi Arabia challenging the delay in declaration of results for improvement examinations. The petitioner argued that the absence of a clear policy for private candidates had led to unfair treatment.

The Centre informed the court that in many cases, the new assessment formula has resulted in improved scores, which have already been communicated to students via email and will be updated on DigiLocker.

Officials added that students dissatisfied with their evaluated marks will also have the option to appear in the next regular examination cycle.
