Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan held a significant round of bilateral talks with Vice Admiral Aaron Beng, Chief of Defence Force of Singapore, during his visit to the island nation for the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue. The meeting reaffirmed the strengthening defence relationship between India and Singapore and focused on enhancing military collaboration and interoperability to address emerging security challenges in the Indo-Pacific, especially in the context of Operation Sindoor.

In a post on social media platform X, the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff stated that the two leaders discussed ways to deepen defence cooperation, with a shared vision for a stable, secure, and rules-based Indo-Pacific. The post highlighted that both sides expressed commitment to enhancing operational coordination and strategic engagement, underscoring the significance of bilateral defence ties amid regional tensions.

General Chauhan also attended the Chiefs of Defence Round Table at the Shangri-La Dialogue, where senior defence officials from countries such as Australia, the European Union, France, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the United States came together to deliberate on major security issues, emerging trends, and collaborative solutions.

During his address on ‘Defence Innovation Solutions for Future Challenges’, General Chauhan spoke on the transformative impact of technological advancement on modern warfare. He noted that the rapid evolution of geopolitical dynamics, combined with democratised access to disruptive technologies, has enabled non-state actors to fuel proxy wars and exacerbate instability.

He emphasised that the future of warfare will be shaped by four major trends: the widespread proliferation of sensors across all domains; the development of long-range hypersonic and precision-guided weapons; the integration of manned and unmanned systems working in tandem; and the increasing intelligentisation of the battlefield through technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, large language models, and quantum computing.

General Chauhan reiterated India’s unwavering commitment to global peace, responsible innovation, and international cooperation in defence. He praised the Shangri-La Dialogue as a crucial platform that brings together global defence leaders to engage in meaningful discussions and promote collective efforts towards a more secure and peaceful world.
