CEC Rajiv Kumar Pledges Fairness Amid Election Challenges in J&K and Haryana Elections.

The upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are drawing significant attention due to the challenges posed by forces trying to disrupt the electoral process.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has emphasised that the Election Commission of India (ECI) is fully prepared to conduct free and fair elections, and he believes that the "ballot is the answer" to those who seek to undermine the process.

Kumar made these remarks after briefing election observers for both Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana. He highlighted the importance of the observers being accessible to political parties and candidates to address any grievances and ensure strict adherence to election rules.

The role of these observers is crucial in maintaining the integrity of the electoral process, particularly in a region like Jammu and Kashmir, where the world is watching closely.

The elections in Jammu and Kashmir are scheduled to be conducted in three phases: September 18, September 25, and October 1, covering a total of 90 assembly constituencies. The previous assembly elections in the region were held in 2014, making this election particularly significant as it will shape the future of the region.

Kumar also pointed out the tremendous enthusiasm seen during the Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir, where a record voter turnout was witnessed.

He expressed confidence that the people of Jammu and Kashmir will once again come out in large numbers to participate in the voting process, thereby shaping their own destiny.

In addition to ensuring the smooth conduct of the elections, the ECI is also prepared to combat fake narratives that may arise during the election period. Kumar assured that the ECI's officers would closely monitor any such issues and respond promptly to maintain the credibility of the electoral process.

Haryana's assembly elections are also scheduled for October 1, with the results for both Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana to be counted on October 4. The notification for the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections was unveiled recently, marking a significant step in the 2024 electoral process.
