Every year on April 21, India celebrated National Civil Services Day in India, an occasion for bureaucrats to affirm their dedication to public service and excellence.
The significance of Civil Services Day traces back to 1947 when Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel addressed Administrative Services Officers on probation, hailing civil servants as the "steel frame of India".
President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday greeted civil servants on Civil Services Day, and expressed confidence that they will continue to serve fellow citizens with the spirit of "nation first".
"Greetings to all civil servants on Civil Services Day. You have carried forward the great legacy of working for the progress of the country with indefatigable spirit. Our civil services always face the challenge to adapt quickly to the dynamic environment, while upholding the three fundamental values Sardar Patel underlined in his speech on this day in 1947 – dignity, integrity and incorruptibility," she said.
"I am confident you will continue to serve the fellow citizens with the spirit of Nation First. My best wishes to you in this endeavour," Murmu said in a post on X.
On April 21, 2006, the inaugural Civil Services Day function took place at Vigyan Bhawan in India's capital. Since then, every year on April 21, India celebrates National Civil Service Day. This special day is dedicated to honoring the invaluable contributions and sacrifices made by civil servants towards the nation's development and progress.
It holds profound significance as it acknowledges the pivotal role bureaucrats and government officials play in implementing policies, delivering services, and maintaining the efficient functioning of administrative processes.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also greeted civil servants. "Hearty congratulations and best wishes to all the dutiful civil servants on 'Civil Services Day'," Adityanath wrote in Hindi on the social media platform 'X'.
"On this auspicious occasion, I wish that all of you always remain active on the path of your duty with full dedication and hard work. Your role is important in achieving the resolution of a 'developed Uttar Pradesh'," he added.
