The Centre has approved the advance release of ₹2,117.85 crore from the Central share of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to support relief, rescue and rehabilitation efforts in states affected by floods during the ongoing southwest monsoon.
The decision was approved by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday to ensure the timely availability of funds for states grappling with heavy rainfall and flooding. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said the financial assistance would strengthen ongoing relief measures and help state governments respond more effectively to the disaster.
According to the ministry, the Centre has been closely monitoring the flood situation since the onset of the monsoon in coordination with the affected states. It said all necessary assistance is being extended under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including the pre-deployment of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and logistical support from the Ministry of Defence wherever required.
The advance SDRF assistance has been approved for seven states. Gujarat and Maharashtra will receive ₹500 crore each, while Odisha has also been allocated ₹500 crore. Assam will receive ₹379.35 crore, Himachal Pradesh ₹193.95 crore and Arunachal Pradesh ₹44.55 crore.
The ministry said Himachal Pradesh, Odisha and Nagaland had already received the first instalment of the Central share of SDRF for the 2026-27 financial year. In view of the continuing flood situation, the Centre has approved the advance release of the second instalment for Himachal Pradesh and Odisha.
For Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat and Maharashtra, the government has sanctioned the advance release of the first instalment by relaxing certain documentary requirements under existing guidelines to expedite the flow of relief funds.
The MHA also said Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) have been deputed to assess flood-related damage in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. Two IMCT visits have already been undertaken in Assam due to the severity of the flooding, while another team is being constituted for Nagaland following a request from the state government.
The ministry said the release of funds is intended to strengthen the response capabilities of the affected states during the current monsoon season. It added that the Centre will continue to monitor the evolving flood situation and extend all necessary support to state governments for relief, rescue and rehabilitation operations.
The southwest monsoon has triggered widespread flooding and landslides in several parts of the country this season, affecting infrastructure, agriculture and thousands of people across multiple states.
