Centre clears ₹707.97 cr for Assam, Gujarat flood relief

In addition to the relief funds for Assam and Gujarat, the HLC approved Rs 903.67 crore for Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan under the NDRF to support the expansion and modernisation of fire services.

The Central government has sanctioned an additional Rs 707.97 crore in financial assistance to Assam and Gujarat to support recovery efforts following the floods and landslides that struck these states in 2024. The approval was granted by a High-Level Committee (HLC), chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, to aid the disaster-affected regions.


According to a statement from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), "This Central assistance has been provided from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), subject to an adjustment of 50 per cent of the opening balance for the year available in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF)." Of the total Rs 707.97 crore, Assam has been allocated Rs 313.69 crore, while Gujarat will receive Rs 394.28 crore.

 

 

 


In addition to the relief funds for Assam and Gujarat, the HLC approved Rs 903.67 crore for Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan under the NDRF to support the expansion and modernisation of fire services. Of this amount, Rs 676.33 crore will be provided as Central assistance. The breakdown includes Rs 117.19 crore for Haryana, Rs 397.54 crore for Madhya Pradesh, and Rs 388.94 crore for Rajasthan.


The MHA emphasised the Central government’s commitment to supporting states during natural calamities, stating, "Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central government is standing shoulder to shoulder with state governments during natural calamities and disasters, providing all necessary support."


This additional assistance supplements the funds already released to states under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). During the financial year 2025-26, the Central government disbursed Rs 13,603.20 crore to 27 states under the SDRF and Rs 2,024.04 crore to 12 states under the NDRF. 


Furthermore, Rs 4,571.30 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) has been allocated to 21 states, and Rs 372.09 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) has been released to nine states.
