The Centre has proposed a meeting with the farmers who have been protesting for several months, suggesting that the discussion take place on February 14 in Chandigarh.
This was confirmed by a senior Union government official on Saturday. The proposed meeting is aimed at addressing the farmers' long-standing demands.
In response to the announcement, farmer leaders called upon Jagjit Singh Dallewal, a prominent protest leader, to seek medical assistance. Dallewal, who has been on a hunger strike for the past 54 days, is currently in a critical condition.
The leaders hope that receiving medical care will enable him to attend the upcoming meeting and contribute to the ongoing dialogue.
A delegation of Central government officials, headed by Priya Ranjan, a joint secretary, recently met Dallewal at Khanauri.
The meeting included discussions with representatives from the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, both of which have been actively involved in the protests. These discussions focused on the farmers' issues and the government's stance.
Farmers protesting at the Khanauri and Shambhu border points, located at the border between Punjab and Haryana, expressed that they have received the government's proposal. They stated that the proposal will be discussed further within their ranks to determine their response.
