Centre reveals stats on reserved category civil servants

Nearly 1,200 candidates from reserved and backward categories have been appointed to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Forest Service (IFS) over the past five years, the Centre informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

 

Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh provided detailed data, revealing that a total of 1,195 officers from Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) were inducted into these prestigious services between 2018 and 2022.

 

In 2018, 233 officers were appointed, followed by 231 in 2019, 223 in 2020, 250 in 2021, and 258 in 2022.

 

These appointments were carried out by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) following the relevant rules and reservation guidelines.

 

The data for 2018 indicated that 97 IAS, 72 IPS, and 64 IFS officers from the reserved categories were appointed.

 

In 2019, the numbers were 103 IAS, 75 IPS, and 53 IFS officers. For 2020, the appointments included 99 IAS, 74 IPS, and 50 IFS officers.

 

The year 2021 saw 97 IAS, 99 IPS, and 54 IFS officers being appointed. In 2022, the figures stood at 100 IAS, 94 IPS, and 64 IFS officers.

 

Minister Singh reiterated that reservations are applied at rates of 15% for SCs, 7.5% for STs, and 27% for OBCs in the recruitment processes for these services.
