The central government has swiftly sanctioned an advance of Rs 40 crore to aid Tripura, reeling under the impact of severe floods that have wreaked havoc since August 19.
Torrential rains have displaced over 60,000 people and claimed at least 20 lives, prompting a massive relief effort across the state.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on Friday, confirmed the relief package, emphasising the Centre's commitment to stand by Tripura during this crisis.
“In light of the devastating floods, the central government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, has approved an advance release of Rs 40 crore as part of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to support the affected people,” Shah announced.
The Centre has also deployed 11 teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), three Army columns, and four Air Force helicopters to bolster ongoing rescue operations.
As the rain abated on Friday, water levels in major rivers began to recede, offering a glimmer of hope to the flood-stricken state.
Over 400 relief camps have been established to shelter those displaced.
