The recent killing of Tamil Nadu Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief K Armstrong has sparked significant attention, with Chennai police suspecting it to be a revenge murder linked to the assassination of gangster Arcot Suresh. Armstrong was brutally hacked to death on Friday evening by a group of unidentified men near his residence in Perambur, Chennai.

According to Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Asra Garg, a thorough investigation has led to the arrest of eight individuals in connection with the murder.

The police have seized seven blood-stained weapons, a Zomato t-shirt, a Zomato bag, and three bikes used in the crime. Garg revealed that the primary motive behind the killing appears to be revenge. Associates of gangster Arcot Suresh, who was murdered last year, believed that Armstrong had conspired in Suresh's assassination.

Further investigations by special teams have resulted in the apprehension of three additional suspects. Preliminary findings suggest that the murder was orchestrated by associates of Arcot Suresh, including his brother, who has also been arrested.

The police are continuing their comprehensive probe into the case to uncover all involved parties and the exact circumstances leading to Armstrong's murder.

In a statement to the press, Greater Chennai Police Commissioner Sandeep Rai Rathore dismissed any political motives behind the BSP leader's murder, emphasising that the incident was a result of gang-related activities rather than political rivalry. Rathore's clarification aims to quell speculations about potential political implications in the case.

Armstrong's death has sent shockwaves through the community, with many paying their respects to the slain leader. His mortal remains were placed at Corporation School Ground in Chennai, where numerous people, including prominent political figures, gathered to offer floral tributes. BSP Chief Mayawati and the party's National Coordinator also travelled to Chennai to pay their respects.

Mayawati condemned the brutal murder and called for immediate action from the Tamil Nadu government to prevent such incidents in the future. In a post on ‘X,’ she highlighted the dedication and hard work of Armstrong, expressing the deep impact of his loss on society and urging the authorities to take strict measures to ensure justice and safety.

The police are diligently working on the case, and further developments are expected as the investigation progresses. The focus remains on uncovering all elements of the crime and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.

Armstrong's tragic death underscores the ongoing issues of gang violence and the need for robust measures to address such threats to public safety and order.
