Families flocked to the beach, many equipped with umbrellas to shield themselves from the blazing sun, ahead of the 11 am start of the air show.
The event kicked off with a riveting demonstration by the Special Garud Force commandos, who displayed their skills in a simulated rescue operation, executing a flawless mission to free hostages. Their dramatic para-jump landings and subsequent slithering manoeuvres captivated the audience.
The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Chennai Mayor R. Priya, and various state ministers.
The clear skies allowed for a spectacular view, and as the event progressed, many spectators raised their umbrellas for a unique aerial photo opportunity towards the end of the show.
A total of 72 aircraft participated in this awe-inspiring aerial display, which is poised to make its mark in the Limca Book of World Records. Among the fleet, approximately 50 aircraft, including the supersonic Rafale jets, performed a dazzling formation while showering flares.
Heritage aircraft such as the Dakota and Harvard, alongside modern marvels like the Tejas, Sukhoi Su-30, and the Sarang helicopters, also joined in the aerial salute.
The Sukhoi Su-30 displayed its remarkable "Loop-tumble-yaw" manoeuvrability while dispensing flares, leaving the crowd in sheer awe.
The Suryakiran Aerobatic Team also thrilled the audience with their aerial prowess, enhancing the overall spectacle.
The event highlighted India’s growing capabilities in indigenous defence manufacturing, featuring state-of-the-art aircraft like the Light Combat Aircraft Tejas and the Light Combat Helicopter Prachand.
This marked the first air display in Chennai in over two decades, themed “Saksham, Sashakta, Amtanirbhar,” reflecting the nation’s commitment to self-reliance in defence.
The grand finale of the event was a breathtaking performance by the Sarang helicopter display team, which executed a series of stunning aerial manoeuvres that brought the crowd to its feet.
