Delhi Police has uncovered crucial details while investigating a series of bomb hoax emails sent to more than 400 schools across the city. These emails caused widespread panic among students and led to class disruptions.

Following an extensive forensic and technical investigation, authorities identified a child as the sender of these emails.

The investigation encountered several challenges, particularly due to the use of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), which helped conceal the origin of the emails.

In response, police conducted a thorough probe, seeking data from email providers and closely profiling the family involved.

According to Madhup Tewari, Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), the investigation revealed that the child had sent bulk emails, including one instance where messages were dispatched to 250 schools at once.

Despite this revelation, police suspect that the child may not have acted alone. The advanced technical methods used to send the hoax emails suggest the possibility of a larger conspiracy at play. “Given the sophistication of the techniques used, it seems unlikely that the child acted alone,” Tewari explained.

As the investigation progresses, officials are examining potential links between the child’s family and an NGO that has voiced strong opposition to the hanging of 2001 Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.

Authorities believe the NGO might have ties to a political party, although the name of the party is being withheld as the investigation is still ongoing.

The exact motive behind the hoax emails remains unclear, but the fact that many of the emails were sent on non-exam days raises questions about whether the intention was simply to cause disruption rather than to affect exam schedules.

Authorities are now delving deeper into whether the NGO or other entities influenced the child to carry out the hoaxes. While it is too early to draw conclusions, the police are also investigating the possibility of a political agenda behind the emails.

“We cannot yet say that the child acted alone. We are looking into whether there is a political link or if the intent was to disrupt public order,” Tewari stated.

The series of hoax emails began on February 12, 2024, and continued sporadically until January 8, 2025. The breakthrough in the case came after forensic analysis of the child’s laptop, which confirmed that over 400 emails had been sent.

Police are also investigating the potential use of the dark web and other sophisticated tools that may have been involved in dispatching the hoax messages.
