On Saturday, Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar, expressing deep gratitude for the opportunity to pray at the sacred Harmandir Sahib.

In the visitor’s book, he noted that it was a fulfilment of a dream to worship at this revered site, considering it a special blessing.

During his visit, CJI Chandrachud spoke to the media, emphasising the significance of the experience. He reflected on his previous visit to the temple as a student in 1975 with his father and shared his hopes for peace and prosperity for all humanity.

The Chief Justice was warmly welcomed by Harjinder Singh Dhami, President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), which oversees the Golden Temple. Dhami presented Chandrachud with a golden model of Harmandir Sahib, a Siropao (robe of honour), and a set of historical books.

Additionally, Dhami handed over a memorandum requesting action against the “hate propaganda” targeting Sikhs on social media. He urged the Chief Justice to address the issue seriously, highlighting the need to protect Sikh principles, history, and identity from malicious online attacks.

Earlier in the day, CJI Chandrachud also gave a convocation address at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh.

He advised young doctors to build their careers on empathy and ethics, emphasising that these qualities are crucial for their professional success. At the 37th convocation, 80 doctors were honoured with medals for academic excellence, and 508 graduates received their degrees, marking their achievements in various medical fields.

Chandrachud's visit to the Golden Temple and his address at PGIMER reflect his commitment to upholding values of empathy, ethics, and respect for diverse cultures and communities.
