The Supreme Court of India on Sunday held the inaugural “Justice for All” run and tree plantation drive in New Delhi. Organised by SCBA , the first-of-its-kind event led by CJI B R Gavai brought together judges, lawyers, and citizens in a collective call for a more accessible and sustainable justice system to spread the key message.
Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai flagged off the event from the Supreme Court premises. Judges of the Supreme Court, Chief Justices and judges of several High Courts and members of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) participated in the initiative.
The 8 KM run/walk event began at the Supreme Court of India campus and concluded at India Gate. The run from the Supreme Court to India Gate was conceived as a national call to make justice a living, timely promise rather than a distant verdict. With crores of cases pending, the SCBA used the platform to press for mediation and arbitration as faster, consensus-based alternatives to litigation.
SCBA President Vikas Singh said,“Even if all cases are decided, it will not be justice for all, because the winning side will feel it got justice, but the losing side will not. True justice can only be achieved through mediation, where both parties are heard and consensus is built rather than conflict.” Through the “Justice for All” campaign, the SCBA sought to draw attention to the growing pendency of cases across the country and the need to restore public confidence in the justice delivery system.
The statement from the Association noted that while crores of cases remain pending, the goal of the movement is not merely faster disposal, but “justice that is timely, meaningful, and fair to all parties.” It emphasized that delays not only burden the system but also erode public faith, as verdicts delivered after decades often fail to bring closure
He added that judges must nurture a culture of give-and-take so that the justice system heals instead of divides. . The SCBA also used the platform to highlight the growing role of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms, particularly mediation and arbitration, as essential tools for delivering real justice. These methods, it said, offer “faster, more amicable, and sustainable solutions” while promoting a national culture of compromise, dialogue, and mutual respect. 'Even If All Cases Are Decided, It Will Not Be Justice For All'
After the run, the judges and other participants planted saplings in their own names or in memory of loved ones, symbolising a lasting duty toward justice and the environment. The event was organised under the leadership of SCBA President Vikas Singh, Vice-President Rahul Kaushik, Secretary Pragya Baghel and the Association’s executive committee.
