CJI Surya Kant leads women's walkathon in Chandigarh

While, the key participants were  CJI Surya Kant and Punjab & Haryana High Court Chief Justice Sheel Nagu, several woman lawyers, students and men also  participated in the walk of about 2.5 to 3 kilometers. Chief Justice of India  flagged off the walkathon at Sukhna Lake police post in Chandigarh  and it concluded at Open Hand Monument in the city.

On International Women's Day CJI Surya Kant flagged off women's walkathon in Chandigarh


As part of  Women's Day celebrations, a walkathon was held in Chandigarh on Sunday morning. It was flagged off by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant from Sukhna Lake to the Open Hand Monument in the Capitol Complex, which also houses the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The event was primarily organised to raise awareness about women's rights and empowerment.

 

While the key participants were  CJI Surya Kant and Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice Sheel Nagu, several woman lawyers, students and men also  participated in the walk of about 2.5 to 3 kilometres. 

 

"It is a historic day to make people aware of women's rights. I felt good about my participation in the event and I am sure this walk must have contributed a little in that direction ……," CJI Kant said, while talking to media. Held during the India International Disputes Week, the event saw participation from lawyers and judges, and members of civil society from different walks of life. " The walkathon and a plantation drive event was organised as part of the India International Disputes Week.

 

Earlier, on Saturday evening, Justice Kant delivered a keynote address on 'India's Cross-Border Disputes Services: 2026-2030 Outlook for Litigation, Mediation, & Arbitration', after inaugurating the Chandigarh International Arbitration Centre at the opening ceremony of the first edition of India International Disputes Week 2026.

 

Meanwhile, a women’s marathon was organised at Dronacharya Stadium in Kurukshetra on Sunday. For the first time, a vintage car and bike rally was organised in Faridabad. The rally was inaugurated by Cabinet Minister Vipul Goyal. It saw many rare and attractive vintage cars and bikes.
