CJP leaders met farmer leader Rakesh Tikait in New Delhi to discuss a joint platform for farmers, students and youngsters. The outreach signals a wider agitation as the outfit presses for the withdrawal of FIRs against student protesters who participated in the Jantar Mantar protest.

 

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Tuesday reached out to farmer leader Rakesh Tikait as it sought to forge a joint front of farmers, students and youngsters. CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka, who met Tikait, said he hoped all groups would “surround the Narendra Modi-led government from all sides”.

 

The meeting was attended by Ranka and several other CJP leaders, along with Tikait and members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU). According to the CJP, the discussions focused on a future strategy to bring together farmers, students and young people on a common platform.

 

Following the meeting, Ranka said the outfit hoped to build a wider coalition against the Narendra Modi-led government. “We hope that our farmer brothers and the students and youth of this country will work together to surround the Modi government from all sides,” Ranka said.

 

The meeting came days after the CJP suspended its 36-day protest over paper leaks and exam fraud cases, indicating that it now intends to broaden its campaign to include issues affecting farmers and youngsters alongside its education-related demands.

 

The outfit alleged that assurances made by the Centre and some state governments during the student protests had not been fully implemented. It claimed that students continued to face action in several states, alleging that cases had been registered against protesters in Bihar and West Bengal, while FIRs were still being filed against students in states such as Rajasthan.

 

CJP leaders also sought Tikait’s support for their demand that cases registered against students be withdrawn. The outfit warned that if no action was taken, it could launch a nationwide agitation in collaboration with farmer organisations and youth groups.

 

Tikait had extended support to the student protests during its protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, visiting the site on multiple occasions and backing the protesters’ demands.
