After enduring scorching temperatures exceeding 50 degrees Celsius, Delhiites can anticipate respite from the relentless heatwave, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Weather conditions are anticipated to ameliorate starting Thursday, with a gradual reduction in severe heatwave conditions prevailing over Northwest and Central India.
The IMD forecasts cloudy skies for the capital from tomorrow onward, accompanied by light rain and gusty winds.
Thunderstorms and dust storms are predicted over the city in the next six days, with intermittent showers expected till June 4.
Thursday's maximum temperature is anticipated to reach 45 degrees Celsius, while the minimum is expected to settle at 30 degrees Celsius.
Mahesh Palawat, Vice President at Skymet Weather, explained, "With easterly winds, the heat index soared over 50 degrees, despite lower recorded temperatures. However, as westerly winds approach, humidity levels decrease, resulting in a reduced heat index, bringing relief to residents."
The heat index, a measure of perceived temperature combining air temperature and relative humidity, is set to decrease, offering relief to residents.
Wednesday witnessed a sudden change in weather for parts of Delhi-NCR, with light showers providing temporary relief after the city's temperature broke records.
The IMD clarified that the recorded temperature of over 52 degrees Celsius in Delhi on Wednesday was likely an "error in sensor or local factor."
According to the IMD, warm night conditions are expected to persist over several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, on May 30.
Additionally, East India is likely to experience a rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next three days, followed by a gradual decline of 3-4 degrees Celsius.
However, no significant change in maximum temperatures is foreseen over other parts of the country.
