Withdraw ₹500 notes Naidu tells Centre.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, a key ally of the NDA, today urged the Centre to scrap the ₹500 denomination notes in view of the rise in digital payments across the country.

In his inaugural address at the three-day Mahanadu, the Telugu Desam Party’s annual conclave in Kadapa, Naidu said there was no need for high-value currency notes as digital transactions had become widespread.

“Even ₹500 currency notes should be withdrawn in order to curtail the influence of money power in politics,” said Naidu, whose support is crucial for the stability and longevity of the NDA government at the Centre.

He recalled having previously suggested the scrapping of high-value notes of ₹500 and ₹1,000 to the Centre. While ₹1,000 notes were abolished, ₹500 notes were retained and ₹2,000 notes were introduced.

Naidu emphasised the need for the complete withdrawal of ₹2,000 notes to eliminate black money. “This would benefit politics as well. Now, funds can be contributed to political parties through digital means. Removing hard currency from circulation will do a lot of good,” he said, adding that his party has always been committed to clean politics and has never encouraged hoarding black money.

The TDP supremo reiterated his party’s support for digital political funding.

Meanwhile, this is the first time the party is holding its conclave in the city, located in the Rayalaseema region, considered the bastion of Naidu’s political rival and YSR Congress Party chief Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

With the event expected to draw over five lakh people across three days, thousands of party workers poured into Kadapa from across the state as the city turned into a sea of yellow, with TDP flags, banners, and hoardings adorning the streets, buildings, and junctions.

The party will release six resolutions designed to set its ideological and administrative vision for the future.

The conclave will also see the formal launch of the ‘My TDP App’, which will provide a digital platform to connect the party’s top leadership with its grassroots workers. The app will help track performance, share updates, and reward active participation, making it a central tool for internal coordination and public outreach.
