Rekha Gupta has officially assumed the role of Delhi’s Chief Minister, marking the beginning of a new leadership chapter in the national capital.
She will commence her first day in office with a series of significant engagements, including a visit to Vasudev Ghat in Yamuna Bazaar and chairing her first Cabinet meeting.
Gupta, who took the oath as Delhi’s ninth Chief Minister at a grand ceremony at Ramlila Maidan, will formally assume office at the Delhi Secretariat in the afternoon.
Following this, she is scheduled to visit the Yamuna Bazaar area, where she is expected to address concerns regarding the condition of the river and the surrounding areas. Later in the evening, she will preside over her first Cabinet meeting, setting the stage for her governance priorities.
The appointment of Gupta and her Cabinet was officially announced by President Droupadi Murmu. The Home Ministry issued a notification confirming her appointment, stating that she would assume office from the date of her swearing-in.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to Gupta, praising her political journey from student activism to municipal administration and now as Chief Minister. He expressed confidence in her leadership and ability to drive Delhi’s development with full dedication.
Alongside Gupta, six BJP leaders were sworn in as ministers, including Parvesh Sahib Singh, who will serve as Deputy Chief Minister. The other ministers in her Cabinet are Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh.
The swearing-in ceremony witnessed the presence of top BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Several Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from across India also attended the event.
Speaking to the media, Gupta described her appointment as a significant moment for women in politics. She called it a "miracle" and expressed her commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in governance.
She vowed to take strict action against corruption, emphasising that those responsible for mismanagement and wrongdoing would be held accountable.
Gupta also highlighted her dedication to fulfilling the promises made by the BJP during the elections. She stressed the importance of teamwork among all 48 BJP MLAs, stating that they would work collectively for the betterment of Delhi.
She credited her rise to the trust placed in her by the BJP leadership and assured that she would carry out her responsibilities with complete honesty.
