Ahead of the International Gita Mahotsav, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini inaugurated a massive cleanliness drive in Kurukshetra, urging residents to join hands in keeping the historic city clean.
The campaign, called the Swachh Kurukshetra Cleanliness Campaign, was launched near the iconic Sheikh Chilli Tomb, where the Chief Minister actively participated in the clean-up efforts.
The Chief Minister spent nearly an hour taking part in the sanitation drive at locations including Sheikh Chilli Tomb, OP Jindal Park, Tau Devi Lal Chowk, and Jyotiba Phule Chowk.
Armed with a broom, he personally cleaned areas, collected trash, and deposited it in dustbins, setting an example for the public. As part of the initiative, he also flagged off a Gita Mahotsav Swachhta vehicle to promote awareness about cleanliness in the city.
The sanitation drive has divided Thanesar city into 18 zones to ensure systematic cleaning efforts. The campaign coincides with preparations for the International Gita Mahotsav, which begins on Thursday.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of presenting a clean Kurukshetra to the world. He noted that the Mahotsav attracts lakhs of visitors from across India and abroad who come to celebrate the historic site where the Bhagavad Gita sermon was delivered.
He called for collective efforts to maintain the city’s sanitation, ensuring that visitors leave with fond memories of a clean and beautiful Kurukshetra.
Saini directed the Deputy Commissioner to leave no stone unturned in ensuring sanitation standards are met, with strict measures in place to improve cleanliness.
